BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team picked up a Conference Carolinas win Friday night, 3-1 over Chowan University.
Hailee Blankenship led the Tornado with 19 kills on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- King scored the first three points, two of which were the result of kills by Gracia Love.
- The Tornado stretched their lead to 7-2, with Chloe Clayton getting a service ace.
- The lead eventually reached 13-7 in favor of King before they scored five in a row to take an 18-7 advantage.
- Chowan then scored seven straight points, pulling to within 18-14 before the Tornado scored two of their own, including a combined block by Kara Miller and Clayton to put King in front 20-14.
- The Hawks eventually pulled even at 22-22, but the Tornado scored the final three points, with Abigale Jayne and Riley Nelson both picking up kills, while also combining for the set-ending block.
Second Set
- Chowan started the set on an 8-2 scoring run.
- The Tornado then went on a 13-3 run, with Blankenship getting two kills, while Gabri Puertas had two consecutive service aces, putting the Tornado in front 15-11.
- The Hawks were able to pull to within 19-17, but the Tornado closed the set on a 6-3 run, with Jayne getting two kills as King took the set 25-20, going ahead 2-0 in the match.
Third Set
- The Tornado started the set by taking the first three points including a solo block by Clayton.
- After Chowan scored a pair of points, King went on a 7-3 run, with Blankenship picking up three kills, putting King in front 10-5.
- King's lead reached 13-8, but Chowan went on a 6-1 run to pull even at 14.
- After the Tornado scored two points, the Hawks went on a 7-2 run, taking a 21-18 lead.
- Chowan eventually took the set 25-22, cutting the Tornado lead to 2-1.
Fourth Set
- The Tornado came out of the gates on fire, starting the set with a 9-1 run, with Blankenship getting three kills.
- King further extended their lead to 16-4 after a 7-3 scoring run where Nelson had both a solo block and an assisted block with Jayne.
- Chowan responded with a 10-4 run, pulling to within 20-14.
- After a Tornado timeout, they responded by scoring the next two points, including another kill by Nelson that put them in front 22-14.
- After the Hawks pulled to within 23-18, the Tornado took the final two points of the set, taking a 25-18 win and a 3-1 match win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Blankenship led all players, finishing with 19 kills.
- Puertas had 27 digs, while Katie Harless finished at 22.
- Harless also handed out a team-high 20 assists.
FOR THE FOES
- Ryan Nored led the Hawks with nine kills, while Haydon Ahlers and Ellie Middleton both had eight.
- Middleton also had five service aces, along with 19 digs.
- Sydney Ginaitt had 29 assists for the Hawks.
