Tornado top Emmanuel and Limestone

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's wrestling team earned a pair of South Atlantic Conference Carolinas victories over Emmanuel College and Limestone University. The Tornado earned seven straight wins to defeat Emmanuel 31-10 before winning eight bouts in a 36-9 triumph over Limestone.

HOW IT HAPPENED - EMMANUEL
  • Emmanuel started with a major decision at 125 pounds before King won seven straight matches.
  • Franky Medina started with a 6:50 pin over Harvey Riddings at 133 pounds before Austin Kolikas defeated Josh Kincaid 11-4 at 141 pounds.
  • At 149 pounds, Demetri Teddlie earned a 15-7 major decision over Clay Frost to give King a 13-4 lead.
  • Trent Mahoney then earned a 9-8 comeback win over Gage Shetley at 157 pounds.
  • Mahoney trailed 8-0 but worked his way back and earned a four-point nearly fall in the final 10 seconds to even the match, and with the riding time bonus point, took the match 9-8.
  • Bo Perkins followed with a 4:40 pin over Connor Smith at 165 pounds before a 12-6 Vincent Galang victory over Grady Tisdale at 174 pounds.
  • Clint Morriesette worked his way back and forced overtime using the riding time bonus point. In overtime, Morrissette got a quick takedown for the 7-5 victory.
  • Emmanuel then won the 197-pound bout before Jacob Telles took a 4-2 victory over Ja'Mon Goodwine at 285 pounds to give the Tornado the 31-10 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED - LIMESTONE
  • Tyson Upchurch got the Tornado off to a good start with a 20-8 major decision over Nathanael Bullard at 125 pounds.
  • Medina then took a win by forfeit to give King a 10-0 lead.
  • Kolikas followed with another Tornado victory, defeating Smaill St. Pierre 9-2 at 141 pounds.
  • Teddlie continued the King roll with a 10-4 win over Avery Dinardi at 149 pounds.
  • Limestone got on the board with a win at 157 pounds before Perkins came up with a technical fall.
  • Perkins defeated Garrett Starks 17-0, extending the Tornado advantage to 21-3.
  • Galang followed with a 15-9 victory over Alex Dilegge at 165 pounds before Morriesette came up with a pin in 4:20 over Briso Aimable at 184 pounds.
  • Following a Saint win at 197 pounds, Telles pinned AJ Harvey in 6:04 to give King the 36-9 victory.
UP NEXT
  • King is in action again this weekend at the University of Indianapolis. The Tornado will face Maryville University, McKendree University and Indianapolis in duals on Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m. before competing in the Greyhound Open on Sunday.
  • Emmanuel hosts Lincoln Memorial University on Wednesday, February 8.
  • Limestone next competes in the Newberry Open on Sunday.
