MARS HILL, N.C. – The King University women's volleyball team opened play at the Mars Hill Tournament with a defeat to Georgia College.
Hailee Blankenship and
Lydia Buchanan posted double-doubles, but the Tornado fell to the Bobcats in three sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- Georgia College started hot with four straight points and opened up a 9-2 lead following five straight points.
- Back-to-back blocks from Riley Nelson and Gracia Love and Chloe Clayton and Buchanan started a quick 4-0 Tornado spurt.
- A Clayton kill pulled King within 14-9 at the end of the run.
- King couldn't get another run going as the Bobcats took the set 25-17.
Second Set
- The teams traded points early in the set until three straight King points gave the Tornado a 10-9 advantage.
- Love started the run with a kill before Buchanan came up with an ace and kill to end the run.
- King later scored three straight points on kills from Blankenship and Clayton to take an 18-15 lead.
- The Tornado later led 20-17 before the Bobcats went on a run.
- Georgia College scored three straight points to even the score before scoring five of the final six points to take the set 25-22.
Third Set
- Georgia College gained control with four straight points to take a 5-2 lead.
- King tried to work their way back, pulling within 6-5 on a Blankenship kill and 9-7 on a Love kill, but the Bobcats had an answer.
- The teams traded 4-0 scoring runs before three straight Georgia College points extended the Bobcat lead to 16-11.
- Consecutive kills from Blankenship pulled King within 18-16, but Georgia College rolled off four straight points.
- King tried to make a late push, but it was to no avail as the Bobcats took the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Blankenship posted her second straight double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.
- Clayton added five kills while Buchanan handed out 15 assists and added 11 digs.
- Gabri Puertas led the back row with 17 digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Callie Miller led Georgia College with 13 kills while Emily Long handed out 23 assists.
- Rachel Machovec accounted for 27 digs while Alanis Bernis posted 17 digs.
- Ally Hall added 15 digs and seven kills.
