Tornado earn tight win over Patriots

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Veronica Roach scored the lone goal on Saturday afternoon as the King University women's soccer team slipped past Francis Marion University, 1-0 on a rainy day at Parks Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Patriots didn't waste much time before going on the attack, as they got a pair of shots and a corner kick within the first 90 seconds but were unable to score.
  • It was Roach who sparked the Tornado, as she scored her second goal of the season in the 32nd minute to give King a 1-0 lead.
  • Francis Marion would get a pair of shots on goal in the final five minutes of the half, but both were turned away by Kristal Garcia.
  • The Patriots were on the attack quick in the second half, as they had three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes, but once again Garcia was able to repel all the shots, preserving the narrow lead.
  • King had a chance at another goal in the 57th minute, but Roach's shot was stopped by the FMU goalkeeper.
  • Neither team would record a shot on goal during the remainder of the match, with king holding on for a narrow 1-0 win over the Patriots.
