BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's soccer team battled into the final 10 minutes Thursday afternoon, but a late barrage from Nova Southeastern proved to be the difference, as the Tornado fell 2-0 to the Sharks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game started slow, with neither team getting a shot on goal until the Sharks recorded one in the 22nd minute, which was saved by Kristal Garcia.
- Business started to pick up in the 36th minute, as the Sharks took a shot which was followed by consecutive corner kicks, all of which were repelled by the Tornado defense.
- Nova Southeastern would get one more shot, and two more corner kicks prior to the half ending, but the score remained at 0 heading into the intermission.
- Coming out of halftime, the Sharks had five shots in the first 10 minutes, with four being on goal and resulting in saves by Garcia.
- The King defense held until the 86th minute, when Nova Southeastern's Katharina Jullich was able to slip one past the Tornado defense to take a 1-0 lead.
- Two minutes later, the Sharks scored another goal to take a 2-0 lead that they would hold onto for the final minutes.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Garcia made 13 saves for the Tornado, which is a new career high, topping her 11 saves at Tusculum on Sept. 7, 2021.
- The Tornado only took two shots, both of which came from Veronica Roach.
FOR THE FOES
- Luana Grabias scored the second goal for the Sharks, and also picked up an assist on the first goal.
- Sofia Suarez also had an assist for the Sharks.
UP NEXT
- The Tornado will play their first road game of the season Sunday, making the short trip to take on Emory & Henry College, with kickoff set for 12 p.m.
- The Sharks will continue their season-opening road trip Saturday, taking on Carson-Newman.
