BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University had two student-athletes earn weekly honors from Conference Carolinas.
Drew Moore of the baseball team garnered Pitcher of the Week recognition while
Carly Turner of the softball team earned Player of the Week honors.
Moore earns his first Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week award following a dominant performance at Chowan University. He tossed six innings on Saturday, allowing just one hit and recording a season-high 11 strikeouts. It was his second game with at least 10 strikeouts on the season as he improved to 7-3.
Turner helped pace the Tornado offense in a 6-0 week that saw King clinch a share of the Conference Carolinas regular season title. In six games she hit .450 (9-for-20) and drove in six runs while scoring a team-high eight runs. Over the week she hit for the cycle with two home runs, one double and one triple. She went 3-for-3 in a win over Southern Wesleyan with a home run before collecting two hits in three straight games. Turner drove in a pair in each end of a doubleheader sweep of Erskine College
In the circle she went 3-0 with a 2.77 ERA, tossing a team-high 17.2 innings, including one complete game. She posted her second game of the season with at least 10 strikeouts when she punched out 10 in a complete game win over Erskine. She only allowed one run on three hits in the contest.
This marks Turner's second Conference Carolinas Player of the Week award this season as the other came on March 1.
