BRISTOL, Tenn. – Following the regular season,
Michael Mays of the King University men's basketball team was recognized by Conference Carolinas. Mays was selected third team all-conference when the league announced their accolades on Wednesday.
This marks the first time in his career that Mays has been selected All-Conference Carolinas.
Mays was the most prolific three-point shooter in Conference Carolinas as he led the league in three-point field goal attempts, makes, makes per game and percentage. He shot 44.7 percent from distance, making 89 of is 199 attempts for an average of 3.07 triples per game.
The Bristol, Tenn., native was one of three players to average more than 18.0 points per game in Conference Carolinas, ranking third in the league with an average of 18.2 points per game. Overall, Mays shot 48.6 percent from the floor and 83.5 percent from the free throw line.
Mays posted 11 games with at least 20 points, including each of the final four games of the season. In the regular season finale, he scored a career-high 33 points, shooting 10-for-16 from the floor and 5-for-9 from long range. Over the final seven games, Mays shot 62.7 percent from long range, going 32-for-51.
Nine times over the season Mays made at least five three-point baskets in a game, including each of the last five games for the Tornado. That included two performances of seven three-point baskets. He went 7-for-12 from distance in a win over Converse University on February 22 and went 7-for-14 at Baton on February 2.
