BRISTOL, Tenn. – Two King University basketball players
Trinity Lee and
Blake Atwood were selected College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District on Thursday when the association announced their awards. Lee earns the award on the women's side and Atwood on the men's side.
Lee is the first King women's basketball player to be selected CoSIDA Academic All-District. Atwood is the fourth Tornado men's basketball player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, joining Logan Lyle (2015), Drew Standifer (2016) and James Brown (2020).
Lee has played in all but one contest for the Tornado this season. She had to miss that game because she was completing an internship with NASA in December. The Knoxville, Tenn., native will graduate with a double major in mathematics and physics and plans to attend graduate school and earn her Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering. The senior carries a 3.97 GPA.
On the court, Lee has been one of the top performers in Conference Carolinas as she led the league in scoring most of the year and now ranks fourth at 15.7 points per game. Lee is one of the top three-point shooters in the league, ranking second in three-point makes per game (2.4) and three-point field goal percentage at 43.0. Earlier this year she poured in 31 points in a win at UNC Pembroke, becoming the first Tornado in the NCAA Division II era (since 2010-11) to eclipse the 30-point plateau. She has scored at least 20 points in four games this season.
Atwood carries a 3.81 GPA while majoring in physics. He is one of the top defenders and three-point shooters for the Tornado. He ranks third on the team with 21 three-point makes on the season and has accounted for 27 steals for an average of 1.2 per contest. He poured in a career-high 19 points, going 7-for-10 from the floor in a win at Francis Marion University in December. He followed that with 16 points at UNC Pembroke, knocking down four triples in the contest.
Both Lee and Atwood are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Those awards will be released on March 15.
