King falls to hot Tusculum squad

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team ran it to a hot Tusculum University team on Tuesday night in the Student Center Complex. The Tornado dropped the first set and couldn't recover, dropping the nonconference match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • Abigale Jayne came up with a kill before a Hannah Rogers ace evened the first set at three.
  • However, the Pioneers responded with six straight points to force a King timeout.
  • The Tusculum attack was nearly unstoppable in the opening set as they hit .389 in the 25-13 victory.
Second Set
  • The Pioneers didn't slow down in the second set as they took a 12-3 lead following six straight points.
  • Another 6-0 spurt gave Tusculum a 19-5 lead as they took the set 25-10.
Third Set
  • King used a 8-1 run, including five straight points to open up an 11-7 lead and force a Tusculum timeout.
  • Allie Zimmerman and Brittney Ramsey teamed up for a block and Jayne accounted for a kill on the spurt.
  • However, Tusculum turned a 13-10 deficit into a 15-13 lead with a 5-0 run.
  • Ramsey followed with a kill to end the spurt before back-to-back Tusculum points.
  • Jayne and Kara Miller accounted for consecutive kills to even the score at 17.
  • However, Tusculum scored the next five points, and seven of the final 10 points to take the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jayne paced the offense with eight kills while Ramsey followed with four kills and three blocks.
  • Katie Harless handed out eight assists while Hailee Blankenship accounted for nine digs.
FOR THE FOES
  • Emiah Burrowes led Tusculum with 15 kills and an attack percentage of .480. She added seven digs.
  • Carli Pigza followed with 10 kills while Raeley Matthews posted 14 digs.
  • Carly Sosnowski also accounted for 14 digs.
  • Elise Carmichael handed out 25 assists.
UP NEXT
  • King travels to the Lee University Invitational on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. King opens play against the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
  • Tusculum hosts Newberry College on Friday night.
