LINCOLN, Neb. – The King University women's wrestling team had nine individuals compete at the Senior World Team Trials over the weekend, including three alumni. Two Tornado reached the semifinals and one alum, Forrest Molinari won the tournament to earn a spot on the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- At 55 kilograms, Cheyenne Sisenstein dropped her first match to Tornado alum Samantha Klingel, 4-2.
- Sisenstein then bounced back with a pair of wins to advance to the consolation semifinals where she fell to Marissa Gallegos.
- At 62 kilograms, Ana Luciano fell to Gracie Figueroa 4-0 in her first bout, but came back with a 14-4 technical fall victory over Sierra Brown Ton.
ALUMNI
- Klingel reached the semifinals at 55 kilograms but dropped consecutive matches to end the day 1-2 in the consolation semifinals.
- The top seed at 65 kilograms, Molinari reached the best two-of-three final with back-to-back wins. She then won the title with two straight wins over Emma Bruntil, 4-3 and 9-0.
- Molinari will be on the World Team for the third time.
- Also at 65 kilograms, Julia Salata dropped her first match, and reached the consolation semifinals before seeing her tournament come to an end.
- Molinari will join Sarah Hildebrandt on the team as she already earned her spot at 50 kilograms.
