IRVING, Texas – Members of the King University women's wrestling team competed at the Women's National Championships over the weekend. The Tornado had three placers on Friday in the Junior National Championships and eight on Sunday at the U23 National Championships. Ashlynn Ortega was voted Outstanding Wrestler with a first place finish and World Team qualification. Cheyenne Sisenstein also qualified for the World Team with a first place finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Junior National Championships
- At 53kg Sophia Mirabella had a strong day with five wins and a seventh place finish
- Phoenix Dubose also had a great day at 59kg with a fourth place finish
- At 65kg Skylar Novak split on the day with two wins and two losses but did not find the podium
- Tory Torres had the strongest day for the Tornado with a third place finish and Junior National Team qualification at 68kg

HOW IT HAPPENED – U23 National Championships
- Aleeah Gould finished the day with five wins and a third place finish at 50kg. Not far behind was Jaclyn McNichols in fifth
- At 53 kg Felicity Taylor also managed to take third going 5-1 on the day
- At 55kg Sophia Mirabella made the finals with three wins but would take second. Melanie Mendoza managed four wins on the day for third
- Cheyenne Sisenstein finished undefeated and as a new World Team member at 57 kg. She would go 4-0 on the day
- At 59kg Phoenix Dubose would go 3-2 for a fourth place finish
- Ana Luciano made the finals with three wins but would take second at 62kg
- Ashlynn Ortega took the day as Outstanding Wrestler and a first place finish at 65kg. She joins Sisenstein as a new World Team member
