King uses the longball to split at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The King University softball team returned to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon with a nonconference doubleheader at Lee University. The Tornado hit five home runs on the day, three in their 9-5 game one victory. However, the Flames came back to take game two 10-2.

KING HIGHLIGHTS GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Haag gave King the lead in the second with a single that plated a pair as King scored a third on Lee throwing error to take a 3-0 advantage.
  • A leadoff triple and groundout got the Flames on the board in the bottom of the inning, but King led 3-1.
  • The Tornado blasted a pair of home runs to extend their lead to 7-1 in the fourth inning.
  • Haylee Dye and Samantha Helms started the inning with back-to-back singles before Sells ripped a longball.
  • Foster hit another home run later inning the inning.
  • Lee plated a pair in the bottom of the fourth, but Miller extended the King lead to 8-3 with a leadoff home run in the fifth.
  • The Flames scored twice in the sixth inning, but Dye came up with a two-out single that scored Miller and gave King a 9-5 lead in the seventh.
  • That was all Marleigh Duncan needed as she retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh, giving King the 9-5 win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Foster led off game two with a home run, putting the Tornado ahead 1-0.
  • Lee responded, however, scoring a pair of runs, the first on a double to center.
  • The Flames then had a runner thrown out at second to end the inning, but the runner at third scored before the putout, giving Lee a 2-1 lead.
  • Another leadoff home run for King in the second inning evened the score, this one from Puckett.
  • The Flames then took advantage of a Tornado miscue in the third inning, scoring two runs to take a 4-2 lead.
  • Lee then added three runs in the fourth, capped by a solo home run to take a 7-2 lead.
  • The Flames ended the contest in the fifth inning with three runs, the final two on a home run, taking the contest 10-2.
