BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University baseball team had two individuals recognized on Wednesday when Conference Carolinas announced their regular season awards.
Drew Moore was selected first team All-Conference Carolinas and
Austin Meyer garnered second team honors.
Moore is selected All-Conference Carolinas for the first time after leading the Tornado with a 5-1 record and 1.85 ERA. His ERA ranks second in Conference Carolinas as he is one of two individuals with an ERA under 2.00. On the season, Moore tossed three complete games, including one shutout. His five wins was the fourth-most in Conference Carolinas while he ranks sixth in the league with 50 strikeouts.
He earned wins over two ranked opponents, defeating No. 3 University of Mount Olive after tossing six and one-thirds innings where he allowed two runs on five hits. He later tossed a complete game, throwing all eight innings of a 4-2 win over 11th-ranked North Greenville University. In that game he allowed two runs, one earned on five hits while striking out eight. Moore's shutout came against Chowan University where he only allowed five hits and struck out a career-high 10.
Meyer also earns all-conference honors for the first time as he ranks fifth in Conference Carolinas with a .390 batting average on the season. Meyer also ranks third in the league with an on base percentage of .504. The senior leads the Tornado with 10 multiple hit games, including three contests with three hits. He also owns seven games with at least two runs batted in, including one game where he drove in three runs. Earlier this season, Meyer went on a 20-game hitting streak and has recorded a hit in 23 of the last 25 games. In the regular season finale, Meyer went 2-for-3 and drove in a season-high three runs.
The Tornado are in action on Wednesday afternoon in the Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship against sixth seed Emmanuel College. First pitch for the seventh-seeded Tornado is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, N.C.
