Tornado stunned at LMC

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The King University men's soccer team closed the regular season a rival Lees-McRae College. The contest was a defensive battle as the contest went to double overtime with no score. It appeared the game would end in a tie, but the Bobcats stunned King with a goal in the 110th minute to take the 1-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lees-McRae had the advantage with nine shots in the opening 45 minutes while King took four shots.
  • The Bobcats placed three of those attempts on goal while one of King's shots was on target.
  • Lees-McRae's first two shots came in the opening five minutes, with the second being saved by Tornado goalkeeper Dalton Gammon.
  • The first Tornado shot came in the 10th minute as Zubair Taylor's shot was off target before Gammon came up with another save on minute later.
  • Ruben Laureano had a shot in the 31st minute off of a Tornado corner kick, but the attempt was blocked by the Bobcat defense.
  • Gammon came up with another save in the 38th minute before Carlos Sampedro ripped a shot on target for the Tornado in the 41st minute.
  • However, the shot was turned away as the game went to halftime with no score.
  • The second half was played more even, but Lees-McRae had the advantage in shots at 8-6 and shots on goal at 4-1.
  • Lees-McRae had the first scoring chances of the second half, but Gammon came up with a pair saves in the 54th minute.
  • Gammon came up with another save in the 59th minute, and the Tornado countered.
  • In the next minute, Joshua Sanchez ripped a shot on target, but it was turned away.
  • Gammon came up with one more save in the 77th minute, and the Tornado didn't allow another Lees-McRae shot for the remainder of the half.
  • King took a pair of shots down the stretch, but neither was on target as the game went to overtime.
  • Laureano had the first scoring chance of overtime for the Tornado, but his shot in the 97th minute was turned away.
  • In the final seconds of overtime, Sanchez ripped another shot that was on target, but it too was saved as the contest went to a second overtime.
  • Gammon came up with another save early in the second overtime and Samuel Corredor Rincon ripped a shot that was high in the 108th minute.
  • It appeared the contest would end in a 0-0 draw, but Lees-McRae's Zachary Aversano played a ball over the Tornado defense.
  • Stephon Davis ran onto it and put it into the open net to give the Bobcats the 1-0 win in the final minute.

  • King took 13 shots in the game, placed four on frame and earned nine corner kicks.
  • Gammon made eight saves for the Tornado.
FOR THE FOES
  • Lees-McRae took 21 shots, placing nine on goal.
  • The Bobcats also had three corner kicks in the game.
  • Anton Sundstrom made four saves in the contest.
