BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team earned their first win of the season in their home-opener, defeating Barton College 3-0. The Tornado offense improved throughout the match in the nonconference victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- The teams traded blows early in the opening set, but Barton took a 12-10 lead with back-to-back points.
- A kill from Abigale Jayne and block from Kayley Holtzclaw and Georgia Davis evened the score and started a 6-1 Tornado run.
- Allie Zimmerman gave King a 16-13 lead with one of her two kills in the opening set.
- However, the Bulldogs came back and evened the score at 16 before the teams traded points again.
- Gabri Puertas started a 5-0 Tornado run with a service ace as King took a 24-19 lead.
- Julie Ward then gave King the 25-20 victory.
Second Set
- King opened the second set with six straight points with Ward at the service line. She served up two aces and added a kill on the spurt.
- The Tornado later opened up a 21-9 lead, but the Bulldogs tried to comeback.
- However, Brittney Ramsey came up with a kill, giving King the 25-18 victory.
Third Set
- The Tornado hit .353 in the final set, while holding the Bulldogs to a -.095 attack percentage.
- The set was tight in the early going, but King used a 7-0 run to take an 18-9 lead following a Hannah Rogers service ace.
- Ramsey came up with a block and a kill before a Hailee Blankenship ace gave King the 25-11 victory to take the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ward led the Tornado with 11 kills to go along with four digs.
- Jayne added five kills with an attack percentage of .625.
- Abigail Shaffer paced the back row with 14 digs.
- Davis handed out 14 assists and added four digs and three blocks.
FOR THE FOES
- Camryn Frederick led the Bulldogs with eight kills.
- Allison Gambill added seven kills and 10 digs.
UP NEXT
- King starts a five-match road trip on Friday at Erskine College. First serve is slated for 5:00 p.m. in Due West, S.C.
- Barton travels to Belmont Abbey College on Saturday.
