MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team traveled to the University of Memphis for an exhibition game. The Tornado played close with the NCAA Division I foe in the first quarter, but ultimately fell 98-61.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period

• Kiki Samsel got the Tornado on the board with a triple and Brianna Dunbar followed with a basket to even the score at five three minutes in.
• The Tigers then drilled back-to-back triples before another triple from Samsel and free throw from Dunbar pulled King within 11-9.
• Samsel's third triple of the period evened the score at 12 before Memphis scored five straight points.
• The teams traded free throws in the final two minutes as King trialed 19-14 after the opening 10 minutes.

Second Period

• Memphis then scored the first six points of the second period before a Samsel fastbreak pullup jump shot.
• The Tigers opened up a 34-19 lead with an 8-0 run before a Dunbar triple got the Tornado back on the board.
• Memphis then closed the half on a 9-4 run to take a 43-23 lead at the break.

Third Period

• Memphis extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring King 26-10.
• A Jaden Potts triple ended the Tornado scoring in the quarter, as Memphis led 69-33.

Fourth Period

• Dunbar connected from long range and made a layup in the early going of the final stanza before Trinty Lee drilled a trifecta.
• Jhayda McKinney knocked down three triples over the last five minutes, but Memphis matched each Tornado score to take the contest 98-61.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Dunbar lead the Tornado with 20 points and five assists while Samsel followed with 12.
• Lee led King with five rebounds to go along with five points.
• McKinney added nine points.

FOR THE FOES

• Makaiya Brooks led Memphis with 23 points while Coriah Beck added 12 points.
• Emani Jefferson added 10 points and five rebounds.

UP NEXT

• King opens the season on November 13 against Limestone University. The contest will be played in Harrogate, Tenn., at Lincoln Memorial University. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
• Memphis hosts Xavier University on Tuesday night.
