MARSHALL, Mo. – The King University women's wrestling team had a big weekend at the highly attended Missouri Valley Open. The Tornado had 11 individuals place, including three individual medalists. The Tornado finished first, ahead of McKendree University by nearly 35 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fifth-ranked Jaclyn McNichols finished third at 101 pounds following an early defeat to eventual champion Oliva Shore of Tiffin University.
- McNichols fought back with six straight wins in the consolation bracket, including a 10-0 technical fall over Indiana Tech's Taylor Wilson.
- Sage Mortimer won the title at 116 pounds, going 6-0 on the weekend. The tournament culminated with an 11-9 decision over Salyna Shotwell of Life University in the championship bout.
- In the quarterfinals, Mortimer pinned third-ranked Sugey Ceja of Tiffin in 2:52.
- The Tornado had both finalists at 123 pounds as third-ranked Cheyenne Sisenstein squared of Vayle-Rae Baker. Sisenstein won all four of her matches to reach the final, while Baker was 5-0 entering the final.
- Sisenstein pinned Baker in 4:26 to take the title.
- Also at 123 pounds, fifth-ranked Makayla Welch finished eighth, going 5-2. She dropped her first bout, but came back with five straight wins, three by fall and two by technical fall. However, she fell to Rebekah Cordova of Wayland Baptist University in the seventh-place match.
- Phoenix Dubose, ranked third at 130 pounds won her first four matches, to reach the final as she finished 2nd.
- Also at 130 pounds, Montana DeLawder fought her way back through the consolation bracket with five straight wins, four by fall and one by technical fall to reach the third-place bout.
- DeLawder capped her tournament by pinning Mea Mohler of Texas Wesleyan University in 3:34 to take third.
- Second-ranked Ana Luciano won her first three bouts at 136 pounds by fall before winning her semifinal match on a 10-0 technical fall to reach the final.
- In the final, Luciano came away with a 6-4 victory over Jordan Suarez to earn the title.
- Ranked fifth at 155 pounds, Viktorya Torres finished 5th. She won her first two matches before falling in the quarterfinals. She again won two more matches before a defeat in the consolation semifinals.
- Torres then earned a 9-0 victory over seventh-ranked Taylor Hites of Tiffin in the fifth-place bout.
- At 170 pounds, Chey Bowman rolled off seven straight wins to reach the third-place bout. She earned five wins by fall and one by technical fall before and injury default advanced her to the third-place bout.
- However, Bowman fell to Britty Corbishley over Texas Wesleyan University, giving her a fourth place finish.
- Nia Crosdale won her first four matches, two by fall and two by decision, at 191 pounds to reach the final.
- In the final, Crosdale fell to Jaycee Foeller of McKendree to take second.
