Tornado top Emmanuel, fall to Lander and Averett

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's wrestling team started their evening with an emphatic win over Emmanuel College 43-3, but the Tornado dropped their next two matches of the night. King fell to Lander University 27-18 and Averett University 31-16.

HOW IT HAPPENED - EMMANUEL
  • Elijah Hicks got the Tornado off to a hot start with a 14-6 major decision over Deven Perez at 125 pounds.
  • Rylee Billings followed with a 4:33 pin of Allen Stone at 133 pounds to give King a 10-0 lead.
  • At 141 pounds, Christian Small earned an 8-3 decision over Nick Voiles before Trent Mahoney made it a 19-0 Tornado lead with a 3:34 pin of Dalton Flint.
  • King then took a 25-0 lead with back-to-back decisions from Dallas Boone and Bo Perkins at 157 and 165 pounds, respectively.
  • Boone defeated Jesse DeJames 4-2 while Perkins topped Luke Escalante 14-8.
  • Josh Wynn followed with a pin of Jonathan Oldknow in 6:30 at 174 pounds, extending the Tornado lead to 31-0.
  • Emmanuel took a tight decision at 197 pounds before Charles Swiggett pinned Hayden Snowden in 50 seconds and Samari Suddeath earned a win by forfeit at 285 pounds to give King the 43-3 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED - LANDER
  • The Tornado fell behind Lander as the Bearcats used a pin and decision to take a 9-0 advantage.
  • King got going with back-to-back pins at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively.
  • Small pinned Ezekiel Marquez in 6:49 at 141 pounds and Mahoney took a 3:26 pin over Bryson Ethington at 149 pounds to put the Tornado ahead 12-9.
  • King then extended their lead to 18-9 following a pair of decision from Boone and Perkins.
  • Boone defeated Jauquin Olivas 115 at 157 pounds and Perkins took an 8-1 victory over Joshua Cizmadia at 165 pounds.
  • However, Lander responded with four straight wins to take the dual 27-18.
HOW IT HAPPENED – AVERETT
  • Averett took the lead with a technical fall at 125 pounds, but Billings came back with a 12-2 major decision over Alex Logsdon at 133 pounds.
  • Small earned a 7-4 decision over Brandon Woody at 141 pounds to give King a 7-3 lead.
  • Mahoney stretched the Tornado lead to 13-5 when he pinned Tony Blackman in 3:41 at 149 pounds.
  • At 157 pounds, Boone earned a 4-0 decision over Landon Childress, giving King a 16-5 lead.
  • However, the Cougars came back with three straight pins and a decision to clinch the win after the 197-pound match.
  • Averett took another win at 285 pounds to take the dual 31-16.
