Tornado shoot past Lees-McRae

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team took complete control of this game from start to finish with Ali Golden leading the way. The Tornado shot 53% from the flood and 44% from three to lift them past Lees-McRae 92-57.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Period

  • King took control early on going on a 9-2 run to start the game with Kristen Cupples leading the way on a fast break lay up to cap it.
  • After an exchange of baskets throughout the period Che' Davis would make a layup to extend the Tornado largest lead of the quarter at 11.
  • King would go into the second period with the lead 26-15.

Second Period

  • Scoring was easy to come by early on in the second period with King going on a 12-3 run to push the lead up to 19.
  • Arielle Holloway would cap the run off with a jump shot, King in firm control 38-19
  • Lees-McRae would go on a 12-0 run of their own to cut the lead down to 7, but a couple Trinity Lee baskets brought the lead back up to 11 at the half.

Third Period

  • King would take firm control of the game in the third period shooting 47.4.
  • Back to back three point-baskets from Ryleigh Fritz and Golden gave King a 25 point lead.
  • After the teams exchanged baskets, the Tornado went into the fourth period with a 71-48 lead.

Fourth Period

  • The Tornado tenacious defense accompanied with their lights out shooting was evident in the fourth quarter against the Bobcats.
  • King outscored Lees-McRae 21-9 in the final period to take the game 92-57.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Golden led King with 22 points, going 8-for-13 from the field.
  • Cupples followed with 16 points, three rebounds, and five assists.

FOR THE FOES

  • Alexis Ammons led the Bobcats with 21 points and 4 rebounds.

UP NEXT

  • King travels to North Greenville University on Saturday, tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
  • Lees-McRae hosts Barton College on Saturday.
