Box Score 2 ATHENS, W.Va. – The King University women's volleyball team closed the Concord University Tournament with a pair of wins on Saturday. The Tornado started with a sweep of Kentucky State University before sweeping Bluefield State College in their final matches before Conference Carolinas play.

HOW IT HAPPENED – KENTUCKY STATE
First Set
- Victoria Gause wasted no time getting the Tornado offense started, and Tristyn Lozano gave King a 5-0 lead with her first kill of the match.
- The Tornado used a 6-0 run, capped by a Lozano ace to open up a 15-6 lead.
- King closed the set on a 9-2 run that was started by a Remi Thele kill.
- Julie Ward then pounded home two of her four kills in the set, giving King the 25-12 victory.
Second Set
- Abby Anderson served up three aces on an 8-0 King run that opened the second set.
- Thele again started a spurt that closed the set with a kill.
- Kayley Holtzclaw recorded back-to-back kills that capped the 4-0 run and gave King a 2-0 lead with the 25-12 second set victory.
Third Set
- Emma Carico broke a 5-5 tie in the third set with a kill and later capped the 4-0 run with another kill.
- Brittney Ramsey then started a 7-0 run with one of her three kills in the match.
- The Tornado took a 16-7 lead following the run that was capped by a block from Ramsey and Anderson.
- King held the lead, and Ramsey gave King the 25-18 victory with another kill.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ward led the Tornado with 11 kills and 10 digs.
- Anderson handed out 29 assists and had three aces.
- Lozano chipped in with three aces and five digs.
- On the defensive side, Rebekah Hill and Sydney Pigage recorded nine digs each.
FOR THE FOES
- Robin Poole led Kentucky State with six kills and added six digs.
- Alliyah Williams led the defense with 10 digs and Amanda Moore handed out 11 assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Ward posted her fifth double-double of the season and second straight.
HOW IT HAPPENED – BLUEFIELD STATE
First Set
- King rolled off three straight points to even the set early before going on a 7-0 run to take a 10-4 lead following a Thele kill.
- King then scored the final four points of the set, taking the opening frame 25-11.
Second Set
- The Tornado had three big runs in the second set, starting with a 12-0 spurt to open the frame.
- Keri Ricker started the set with five straight aces to put the Tornado ahead.
- King then scored seven straight points before scoring six of the final seven points to take the set 25-4.
Third Set
- In the middle of the third set, King scored 10 straight points, started by a Caitlyn Crawford kill capped by another from Carico.
- The Tornado held their lead there and went on to take the set 25-7 for the sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Carico led King with 13 kills on 19 attempts for a .684 attack percentage.
- Thele followed with 10 kills on 15 attempts for a .600 attack percentage.
- Ricker handed out 23 assists, nine aces, and team-high seven digs.
- Hill accounted for six aces and Crawford had five aces and six digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Aerona Perkins led Bluefield State with three kills Adeline Jachim had four digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- King hit .556 in the match, the third-highest mark since 2011 when the Tornado became NCAA Division II members.
- The Tornado previously hit .614 against Morris College in 2013 and .571 at North Greenville in 2011.
- King had 21 service aces, their highest in the NCAA era, topping the 20 the Tornado accounted for in 2016 against Pfeiffer University.
- Carico set a career-high with 13 kills.
- Ricker's nine aces bested the previous NCAA program-high of eight set in 2011 against Bluefield State.
- Ward was selected to the all-tournament team.
