HOW IT HAPPENED – #16 GANNON
First Set
- Gannon used a 4-0 run in the beginning of the set to take a quick lead.
- The Tornado answered back with a 4-1 run of their own following a Tristyn Lozano kill and a Julie Ward ace to cut the lead within one at 5-4.
- The Golden Knights then ran away with the set going on a 9-1 and a 10-2 run to take the set 25-13.
Second Set
- The second set was tight early on with the score being knotted at eight.
- Gannon then used a 7-1 run to take the lead in the set 16-9.
- King exchanged blows with the Golden Knights for the rest of the set but could not come back and dropped the set 25-17.
Third Set
- King and Gannon once again went going back-and-forth to start the set with the Tornado taking the early lead 11-9.
- The Golden Knights followed with an 8-4 run to take the lead 17-14.
- The Tornado came back scoring the next five of six points to take the lead following a Lozano ace 21-20
- Gannon would then close the match with a 5-1 run to win the set 25-22 and win the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ward led the Tornado with 7 kills and 7 digs.
- Abby Anderson had 22 assists and 6 digs.
- Sydney Pigage led the back row with 10 digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Lauren Sampson led The Golden Knights with 14 kills and 9 digs.
- Ashley Beyers dished out 35 assists and 10 digs.
- Toni Leitshuh helped solidify the defense with 12 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED – CONCORD
First Set
- King and Concord started off the first set by exchanging 4-0 runs.
- The Tornado then went on a 7-2 run ended by a kill from Lozano to push away from Concord 16-12.
- The Mountain Lions were able to fight back and tie the score at 18 with a 5-0 run of their own.
- The Tornado held their lead there before Davis gave King the 25-21 victory with one of her three kills in the set.
- Following a King timeout, the Tornado were able to put the Mountain Lions away with a 7-4 run ended with a kill from Kayley Holtzclaw 25-22.
Second Set
- Again, King and Concord exchanged momentum throughout the second set.
- Concord came out with a 5-0 run to step ahead of King, King then countered with a 4-0 run of their own to tie the set at 18.
- King then took a brief lead at 23-21 before Concord finished off the set with a 4-0 run to take the set 25-23.
Third Set
- The Mountain Lions came out strong in the third set with a 6-1 run off the bat.
- The Tornado slowly came back throughout the set following a slow start and were able to tie the set at 20 following a kill by Ward.
- King was then able to put the set away winning four of the next six points to take the set 25-23
- King then took a brief lead at 23-21 before Concord finished off the set with a 4-0 run to take the set 25-23.
Fourth Set
- King this time started off rolling with a 7-2 run to take the commanding lead in the set.
- Concord then battled back in the set with a 9-3 run of their own to tie the set at 11.
- The Tornado and the Mountain Lions then exchanged three-point bursts with king taking the lead at 21-19.
- King and Concord then battled beyond the best to 25 score limit and went blow for blow with King taking the final set 32-30 started by a kill from Rebekah Hill.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ward had a career-high17 Kills and added 16 digs for the double-double.
- Anderson dished out a season-high 54 assists. She came within one of her career-high of 55 which she set a season ago against Mars Hill University.
- Pigage led the defense with 16 digs.
- Lozano chipped in with 13 kills and seven digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Brooke Heck had 11 kills
- Erin Shannon had 14 digs.
