Box Score 2 BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team concluded play at the King Invitational with a pair of tough losses to Newberry College and Lincoln Memorial University. The Tornado fell to Newberry 3-1 in the opener before dropping the nightcap to the Railsplitters 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED – NEWBERRY
- Newberry got off to a hot start, scoring the first three points and opening up a 13-9 lead early in the first set.
- The Wolves later used a 5-0 run to take a 21-12 lead as they went on to take the set 25-16.
- King had an answer in the second set as the Tornado scored four straight points to take a 13-9 lead.
- Following a Newberry point, King scored four straight and seven of eight points to take a 20-11 advantage.
- Jenna Sturgeon and Remi Thele then gave King the 25-16 victory when they teamed up for a block.
- The momentum continued for the Tornado in the third set, opening up a 10-5 leading following a Sturgeon kill.
- The Tornado later led 15-7 before Newberry went on a 4-0 run, cutting their deficit to 15-13.
- Newberry eventually evened the tally at 17 and took an 18-17 lead before King answered.
- Tristyn Lozano put the Tornado back ahead 20-19 with a kill, but the Wolves answered again.
- Newbery scored six of the final nine points to take the set 25-23.
- The fourth set was tight until the Wolves started to gain separation with a 4-0 to take a 13-8 advantage.
- The Tornado couldn't come back as Newberry took the set 25-16 and the match 3-1.
- Cathy Scaniffe led the Tornado with 10 kills while Ashton Beckner followed with nine.
- Haley Roe dished out 34 assists to go along with 11 digs for the double-double.
- Defensively, Amy Serowski led the way with 16 digs followed by Roe's 11 and Sydney Pigage added nine.
HOW IT HAPPENED – LINCOLN MEMORIAL
- Lincoln Memorial gained control early in the first set, using a 3-0 run to take an 11-6 lead.
- The Railsplitters continued to slowly increase their lead, taking the set 25-17.
- In the second set, the Tornado stayed even with Lincoln Memorial and scored three straight points to take an 11-10 following kills from Thele and Scaniffe.
- However, Lincoln Memorial responded with six straight points to take a 16-11 lead.
- King made a late run, but the Railsplitters held the lead and took the set 25-20.
- Lincoln Memorial used a 4-0 run in the third set to turn a 6-6 tie into a 10-6 lead to gain control of the frame.
- Just as they did in the first set, Lincoln Memorial slowly pulled away, taking the set 25-15 for the 3-0 victory.
- Scaniffe led King with 10 kills and Lozano followed with eight.
- Roe handed out 31 assists to go along with seven digs while Pigage accounted for nine digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The double-double against Newberry was the first double-double of Roe's career.
- Scaniffe was named to the all-tournament team.
