Tornado split Senior Day doubleheader with Falcons

BRISTOL, Tenn. – After falling to Pfeiffer University in day one of a Conference Carolinas series the King University baseball team came back to split day two with the Falcons earning a victory in game two of a double-header. The Tornado dropped game one 6-4 and fought back to take game two 7-2 behind a diverse hitting effort and a solid game of the mound from Matt Jackson.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ryan Whitt led the Tornado going 4-for-5 for the day, accounted for one run, and drove in one run.
  • Preston Douglas recorded three hits, including a triple in game one.
  • Ryan Sattz recorded his seventh home run of the season in game one and drove in two runs in each game.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Pfeiffer recorded two runs on two hits in the first inning after they scored a run off a walk with the bases loaded and Tanner Mathis singled through the left side to score another.
  • The Tornado answered back immediately in the bottom of the first when Ryan Sattz recorded a two-run home run over left center to even the score 2-2.
  • Jordan Eckard then posted a three-run home run in the third to regain the lead 5-2 that the Falcons held through four innings.
  • A Douglas triple in the fourth inning drove in J.P. Castaneda and Dylan Sligh who had both earlier singled as the Tornado closed in on the Pfeiffer lead now down 5-4.
  • Pfeiffer added another run in the sixth off an Anthony Allende single to left center advancing their lead to 6-4 and Ethan Greene held the Tornado in their final two at bats as he allowed only one hit and struck out three.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Matt Jackson set the pace of the Tornado defense in the first inning as he held the Falcons without a hit and Sattz followed up as he gave the Tornado the early advantage with a single to left field as he drove in Whitt who had earlier singled up the middle.
  • Pfeiffer jumped on board in the third when Damon Smith drove in Derek Perry who had earlier tripled to tie the game 1-1.
  • The Tornado quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the third with three runs fueled by Mark Hencken who doubled to right center and scored Douglas who had earlier singled.
  • Whitt followed up with a single that would score Braden Cook who was a pinch runner for Hencken. Nicolas Keister came in to run for Whitt and scored off an error by the Falcons, as the Tornado earned a 4-1 cushion.
  • The bottom of the sixth marked another three run inning for the Tornado highlighted by a Moises Soto double that drove in Anthony Hunt who had earlier singled and stole second.
  • Joe Ganger then drove in Austin Dayton who had earlier singled and Douglas drove in Soto off a single to center field with the Tornado now leading 7-1 through six innings.
  • Pfeiffer recorded three hits in the top of the seventh and scored one off a Austin Fox single to center field but Soto picked off a runner at first base and Jackson earned the Tornado a ground out to end the inning.
  • Gus Gill took the mound for the Tornado in the final two innings allowing only one hit as the Tornado took the 7-2 victory in game two.

FOR THE FOES

  • Green took the win in game one pitching a complete game, only allowing four runs and tallying nine strikeouts.
  • Eckard drove in three runs in game two and posted his fourth home run of the season.
  • McKenzie led the Falcons from the plate going 4-for-8 for the day.

  • King travels to take on Lenoir-Rhyne University Wednesday with a 5:00 p.m. start time.
  • Pfeiffer travels to Francis Marion University Tuesday.
