OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The King University women's wrestling team had a solid day at the ASICS University Nationals, having six wrestlers place at the event. Breonnah Neal and Forrest Molinari led the way with third place finishes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Molinari started her day at 69 kilograms with a technical fall win and followed it with a pin over Anna Naylor in 3:52 to reach the semifinals. However, she fell to Jennifer page before winning back-to-back matches to take third. She defeated Lisa Gonzalez 6-0 before earning a 4-4 decision victory over Lorrie Ramos in the third place bout.
- As one of four wrestlers King had a 48 kilograms Neal reached the semifinals with back-to-back 10-0 technical fall victories. However, she fell to Erin Golston on a 3-1 decision to fall to the consolation bracket. Neal then earned a 7-6 win over Sarah Allen before topping teammate Marina Doi 7-1 in the third place bout.
- Doi reached the semifinals with a 10-2 win over Allen before defeating Tayler Resuriz 7-0. However, she fell to Cody Pfau before defeating teammate Regina Doi 5-0 in the consolation semifinal.
- Regina Doi reached the quarterfinals where she fell to Golston before taking a 10-0 technical fall win over Michele Guerrero in the consolation bracket. She ended up with a sixth place finish after dropping her final two bouts.
- Cassidy Ferrell reached het quarterfinals with an 11-0 technical fall win over Adreana Berrera before falling to Neal. She then earned an 8-8 win over Rebecca Forsyth before falling to Regina Doi.
- At 53 kilograms, Ricki Liang reached the semifinals with a pin and 10-0 technical fall victory. However, she fell to Haley Augello before advancing to the third place bout by pinning teammate Daisy Santos in 4:23. In the third place bout she fell to Lindsey Spjut 9-2, giving her a fourth place finish.
- Santos pinned Rhonda Johnson in 1:44 before falling to finalist Amy Fearnside in the quarterfinals. She then earned consecutive wins by technical fall before falling to Liang. She then dropped her next bout to take sixth.
