Tornado take game one over Saints in league series

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University baseball team took the field for game one in a Conference Carolinas series against Limestone College. The Tornado posted a 9-4 victory over the Saints despite trailing by a run through four innings. After Ryan Sattz posted the equalizer off a one-run home run in the sixth, the Tornado did not look back recording five runs in the seventh and eight innings combined to take the win over the Saints in game one.

KING HIGHLIGHTS

  • Designated hitter Sattz recording a perfect game from the plate going 4-for-4 and driving in three runs for the Tornado. Sattz also recorded his fourth home run of the season.
  • Whitt tallied two hits on the day, including a double and a triple. Whitt drove in one run, recording two runs of his own.
  • Sligh also registered two hits while recording two runs and two runs based in.
  • Andrew Phemister tallied his first win of the season for the Tornado, pitching 2.2 innings, allowing the Saints only one hit.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Saints hopped on the board early after their number two batter, Olsezkowicz hit one out of the park recording a one-run home run.
  • King answered in their first at bat after Whitt tripled to left center scoring Keister, who earlier was walked and stole second. Whitt then scored on a Sligh ground out the pitcher giving the Tornado a 2-1 advantage.
  • The Tornado added another run in the second inning off a Hencken double to left center that drove in Ryan Sattz who had earlier singled and advanced to second off a bunt from Keister.
  • Limestone the rallied back in the fourth to take the lead after scoring a run on a wild pitch and a Stewart two-run home run that gave the Saints a 4-3 lead.
  • Leading off for the Tornado in the sixth inning, Sattz ripped a home run to left field to tie the game 4-4 through six innings.
  • The Tornado turned up the heat in the seventh inning, kicked off by lead-off batter Sligh who singled to right field and Dayton who followed with a double through the left side.
  • Bailey then laid down a bunt that landed him on base, drove in Sligh, and advanced Dayton to third.
  • Sattz topped the inning off with a single to right side that sent in Dayton and Bailey.
  • King put the nail in the coffin with a couple more runs in the bottom of the eight off a Sligh single to center field that scored Whitt who had earlier doubled and another run that was scored after Ganger was walked with the bases loaded.
  • Andrew Phemister then sealed the deal in the top of the ninth, allowing only one hit and a couple easily fielded balls for the Tornado, ending the game taking a Saints batter out swinging.

FOR THE FOES

  • Stewart lead the Saints with two runs batted in, recording his second home run of the season.
  • Olsezkiwicz recorded one run batted in and posted home run marked his second of the season also.
