BRISTOL, Tenn. – The top-ranked King University women's wrestling team turned in a stellar Sunday at the Tornado Open. The Tornado recorded 11 wrestlers in the top three of their respective weight classes, including six first place finishers and two runner-up finishes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- At 101 pounds, Marina Doi took a pair of wins over University of the Cumberlands competitors, starting with a win by technical fall over No. 8 Maia Phanthadara 10-0 before pinning No. 5 Sarah Allen in 3:00.
- Regina Doi went 2-1 on the day, defeating Kara Payton of Life University 8-0 and topping Phanthadara on a 10-0 technical fall in the third place bout.
- The Tornado had four wrestlers at 109 pounds, all placing in the top four. Breonnah Neal led the way, taking the title with four straight wins. She started with a 2:30 pin of Cumberlands' Diana Molina and followed it with a 13-0 technical fall win over Maria Ramos of Campbellsville University. Neal took the title with back-to-back wins over teammates Vanessa Gomez and Ashley Iliff, both by 10-0 technical falls.
- Iliff finished second following three straight wins, started by a 0:44 pin of Nikki Weidman of Life. She then topped Crystal DeLucio of Cumblerlands on a 12-2 technical fall and teammate Daisy Santos 4-2 in the semifinals before falling to Neal.
- After falling to Iliff, Santos bounced back with a 12-4 decision over Weidman and took third place with a 10-0 technical fall win over Gomez.
- Samantha Klingel took home first at 116 pounds with a trip of wins. The senior took back-to-back 10-0 technical fall victories over Makayla Bourbon and Sidney Salinas, both of the Cumberlands. She then topped teammate Ricki Liang on a 10-0 technical fall in the title bout.
- Liang topped Kaitlin Fitzpatrick of Campbellsville on a 12-0 technical fall in the opening bout and reached the finals on a forfeit.
- Hanna Grisewood earned a pair of 10-0 technical fall victories and earned one pin in her way to the 123-pound title. She defeated Vanessa Sanchez of Adrian College on a technical fall before pinning Makayla Bushman of Campbellsville in 2:13 to reach the finals. In the final bout she topped Kassidy Block on a 10-0 technical fall.
- At 136 pounds, Hannah Jewell earned three technical fall victories, all over wrestlers from Campbellsville en route to her title. She topped Kasey Kruczek 10-0, Steffanie Hampton 14-4 and Rosemary Flores.
- Forrest Molinari took the title at 155 pounds, taking 10-0 technical fall wins over Cheyenne Duran and Sam Cushard of Adrian College.
- At 191 pounds, Jacqueline Williams dropped her first match to eventual champion Tiara Scott, but rebounded with back-to-back wins to take third. She pinned teammate Denise Perez in 1:13 before taking a 0:33 pin over Campbellsville's Rebecca Carson in the third place bout.

- King will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to the Bearcat Open in Lebanon, Ill.
