Tornado drop opener to Tusculum

Bristol, Tenn. – The King University men's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a solid first half against regional rival Tusculum College. However, the Pioneers put the contest out of reach with a pair of goals in the final 11 minutes to take the opener 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tusculum gained an early advantage in the 21st minute on a header from Dominic McLaren off a corner from Todd Fidler.
  • King then turned the field for the next five minutes before Tusculum hit the post in the 27th minute and Kari Sveinsson kept King within one with a save in the 29th minute.
  • Eli Carrasco had a pair of opportunities to even the score in the 66th and 72nd minutes but were turned away by the Tusculum goalkeeper.
  • The Pioneers hit the post in the 70th minute before breaking through with goals in the 78th and 80th minute to put the game out of reach.

FOR THE FOES

  • Tusculum had three different goal scorers, the first two from underclassmen Dominic MacLaren and Andre DeGiorgi, and the third from senior Cody Kammerzell. 
  • Keeper Jorge Alvarez posted three saves for a shutout.

  • King will host Concord University Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Parks Field.
  • Tusculum will host Milligan College Saturday 3:00 p.m.
