Tornado fall at Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – Following their five set loss to open Conference Carolinas play, the King University women's volleyball team tried to get into the win column on Friday night at Southern Wesleyan University. However, the Warriors grabbed the lead early and took the 3-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • King used a 4-0 run late in the first set to even the score at 17-17 before the teams traded points. However, the Warriors regained the lead before scoring the final two points of the frame to take the set 25-21.
  • Southern Wesleyan grabbed the lead early in the second set and held the advantage throughout the set, taking a 2-0 lead with the 25-18 set victory.
  • King grabbed the lead early in the third set before Southern Wesleyan went on a 6-0 run to grab the lead. The Warriors went on to take the set 25-22.
  • Ashleigh Manke led King with seven kills.
  • Grace Underwood, Sarah Collins and Lauren Willoughby all registered six kills. Willoughby added eight digs to lead King.
  • Olivia Underwood added 17 assists and seven digs.

FOR THE FOES

  • Sarah Hughey led the Warriors with 12 kills while Paige O'Connor registered 11.
  • Megan Widener posted a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Tornado are 0-2 to start Conference Carolinas play, marking the first time since King joined the league in 2011 they haven't won a match in their first two conference contests.

  • King stays on the road to face North Greenville University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
