IRVING, Texas – Members of the King University women's wrestling team turned in another solid weekend at the Body Bar UWW National Championships. Marina Doi and Forrest Molinari led the group, both taking gold medals, earning spots on the U.S. UWW Junior World Team.
Doi started her day in the quarterfinals with a 12-0 technical fall win over Josalyn Van Gundy before taking a 10-0 technical fall win over Maia Phanthanda to advance to the finals. In the championship best-of-three format, Doi defeated her sister Regina Doi by forfeit, earning her a spot on the team at 44 kilograms.
At 67 kilograms, Molinari earned back-to-back 10-0 technical fall wins over Margaret Douma and Morgan Becker to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals she defeated Kayla Marano on a fall in 0:42, giving her a matchup with Skylar Grote in the final series. Molinari took the first bout 5-1 before taking the goal medal on a fall in 4:11, to earn her spot on the U.S. UWW Junior World team.
Also competing for the Tornado was Jessi Kee who finished third at 63 kilograms. Kee earned consecutive wins by fall in 0:37 over Jenna Wilson and by technical fall (10-0) over Jasmine Bailey t reach the semifinals where she fell to Mallory Velte. In the consolation bracket she topped Shelby Hall 6-1 before defeating Bailey again, this time by fall in 1:15, giving her the bronze medal. The then topped Alexis Porter on a fall in 3:41 in the true second place match.
Brenda Perez and Rozlynn Vasquez also competed for the Tornado with Perez going 1-2 and Vasquez dropping both of her matches.
Doi and Molinari will compete for the U.S. UWW Junior World Team in Brazil this August.
