Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team squared off against one of the top teams in the country and went toe-to-toe with sixth ranked Columbus State University in the first quarter. However, the Cougars gained a lead in the second quarter as the game was played even in the second half with Columbus State taking the contest 65-53.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams got off to slow starts as the Cougars shot 23.8 percent and King shot 18.8 percent in the first quarter. Columbus State held the 10-8 edge after the first stanza.
- Arnelle Collins nailed a three-point shot to give King an 11-10 lead early in the second quarter before the Cougar offense heated up.
- Columbus State scored 10 straight points to take a 20-11 lead midway through the quarter. Their lead grew to as many as 16 points and the Cougars held a 29-15 lead at halftime.
- In the second half, Michelle Mitchell gave Columbus State their largest lead of the game at 36-19 before King started to work their way back.
- The Tornado went on a 10-2 run started by a Sheena Johnson layup and capped by back-to-back layups from Johnson and Ashley Albertson as King trailed 38-29 with four minutes left in the third quarter.
- Columbus State again stretched the lead to 15 and held a 49-36 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
- The Tornado couldn't get a run in the fourth quarter as the Cougars had an answer each time King tried to comeback, making the final score 65-53 in favor of Columbus State.
- King shot 35.8 percent in the contest while Columbus State shot 38.2 percent.
- The Tornado were out rebounded by the Cougars 49-40.
- Albertson led King with 10 points and nine rebounds.
- Amy Van Deventer added eight points and six rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
- Mitchell posted a game-high 26 points, going 13-for-25 from the floor. She also added nine rebounds.
- Ashley Asouzu grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and added eight points for the Cougars.
- Eryn Cochran chipped in with 12 points and six assists.
- Of Columbus State's 40 rebounds, 21 came on the offensive end.
