MARSHALL, Mo. – The top-ranked King University women's wrestling team returned to the mat on Saturday at the Missouri Valley Open where King took the individual team title. Two individuals, Ashley Iliff at 101 pounds and Forrest Molinari took titles and four others finished as runners-up.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- King won the team title with 254 points with Oklahoma City finishing second at 229 points.
- Illiff won her first two bouts on technical falls before topping teammate Marina Doi 1-1 in the semifinals. She then defeated Regina Doi in the finals for the title.
- Taking second was Regina Doi who reached the finals with a win by fall over Lisa Anderson of Ottawa University and 4-0 victory over Sarah Allen of University of the Cumberlands in the semifinals.
- Mariana Doi took a pair of technical fall victories before falling to Iliff, but she bounced back for a 2-2 decision over Allen to take third.
- At 143 pounds, Molinari went 4-0, starting with wins by fall and technical fall before reaching the finals with a 12-3 decision over Hannah Gladden of Campbellsville University. She then defeated Alexis Porter of McKendree University 4-2 to take the title.
- At 109 pounds, Breonnah Neal took second, going 4-1 on the day. She took four straight 10-0 technical fall victories before falling to Cody Pfau of Oklahoma City University in the finals.
- Daisy Santos went 3-3 at 109 pounds to finish sixth while Vanessa Gomez went 4-3 and finished eighth.
- Hanna Grisewood took a runner-up finish at 116 pounds, starting with a win by fall and then taking an 11-1 technical fall victory over Menlo College's Bianca Arizpe. She then took another technical fall victory before falling to Becka Leathers of Oklahoma City 6-0 in the finals.
- Ricki Liang also placed at 116 pounds, finishing seventh with a record of 4-2. She reached the quarterfinals with a pair of technical fall wins before falling to the consolation bracket. In the seventh place bout she defeated Cumberlands' Sidney Salinas 6-2.
- Jessi Kee also came in with a second place finish at 136 pounds. After taking her first bout on a technical fall she earned two wins by fall before reaching the finals with a 6-2 win over Olivia Seppinni of McKendree. However, she fell to Monica Ramirez of Lindenwood University on a 2-2 decision in the finals.
- At 191 pounds Jaqueline Williams came in with a fifth place finish after going 3-2. She reached the semifinals with a technical fall win and 12-5 victory. She then dropped back-to-back bouts before defeating Lindenwood's Renee Samano on a fall in 0:35.
