King drops Conference Carolinas match to Erskine

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team played their second match in as many days when they hosted Erskine College on Saturday afternoon. The Tornado defense kept King in the match, but the Flying Fleet offense proved to be too much as Erskine took the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Erskine quickly gained a 5-0 advantage in the first set, but King came back to pull within one at 13-12, but the Flying Fleet answered with 6-2 run to open up a lead as they went on to take the set 25-21.
  • The Flying Fleet gained the advantage again early in the second set following a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. From there, Erskine held their lead to take the set 25-20.
  • King looked to keep the match going in the third set as the teams went back-and-forth in the early going of the third set. The Tornado opened up an 18-15 lead before the Flying Fleet rolled off six straight points to take the lead en route to the 25-21 win to take the match.
  • Ashleigh Manke led King with 10 kills on 26 attempts on two errors for an attack percentage of .308.
  • Sarah Collins and Lauren Willoughby followed with eight kills and eight digs.
  • Haley Roe led the King defense with 11 digs while Amy Serowski and Angela Boudavong added nine digs apiece.
  • Olivia Underwood dished out 27 assists.

FOR THE FOES

  • Kelly Sullivan led Erskine with 10 kills while Payton Duncan followed with nine.
  • Kendall Kirk posted a match-high 22 digs.
  • Kristen Dodge handed out 24 assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • For Boudavong, her nine digs marked a career-best.
  • Manke hit over .300 for the second time this year. Earlier she posted an attack percentage of .333 with 12 kills against USC Aiken.

UP NEXT

  • King travels to Trevecca Nazarene University on Tuesday with first serve set for 7:00 p.m. (ET).
  • Erskine next hosts Anderson University on Wednesday night.
