Tornado take sweep at Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The King University women's volleyball team took to the road on Wednesday night and stretched their winning streak to four matches behind another solid nigh from their offense. King defeated Pfeiffer University to move to 6-4 in Conference Carolinas play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Pfeiffer jumped out a an 11-6 lead in the first set before King used a 4-0 run where Ashton Beckner, Grace Underwood and Lauren Willoughby recorded kills and Ashleigh Manke posted an ace to pull King within one.
  • King grabbed their first lead at 15-14 and pulled away, the Falcons came back to take a 21-20 lead. However, the Tornado scored five of the final seven points to take the set 25-23.
  • The second set was close early until King used a 6-3 lead to gain a 17-13 advantage on their way to a 25-18 victory.
  • The Tornado jumped out early in the third set behind a pair of kills from Willoughby to take a 3-0 lead. The advantage grew to as many as 10 at 16-6 as King took the set 25-19 to take the three-set sweep.
  • Willoughby continued her hot play of late, hitting .423 in the match with a match-high 13 kills.
  • Beckner followed with 11 kills and hitting .500 with just two errors.
  • Grace Underwood added seven kills.
  • Haley Roe posted a team-high 18 assists while Olivia Underwood handed out 13.
  • On the defensive end, King posted seven blocks, led by four from Beckner.
  • Amy Serowski accounted for a team-high 14 digs.

FOR THE FOES

  • Shenelle Charlot led the Falcons with nine kills while Katie Wilson dished out 1 assists.
  • Kayla Hyatt had a team-high seven digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The 11 kills for Beckner mark a season-high, coming within one of her career-best.
  • Willoughby has hit over .300 in each of her last three matches, her longest streak of the season.

UP NEXT

  • King returns home to face Belmont Abbey College on Friday night in the Student Center Complex at 7:00 p.m. The Tornado fell to the Crusaders in five sets to start the Conference Carolinas season.
  • Pfeiffer travels to Lees-McRae College on Friday night before face the Tornado on Saturday afternoon in the Student Center Complex.
