Masters leads King at Super Region II Duals

TIFFIN, Ohio – The King University men's wrestling team squared off with some of the region's best teams on Saturday at the Super Region II Duals hosted by Tiffin University. The Tornado dropped all four matches to Tiffin, University of Findlay, University of Indianapolis and Seton Hill University.

King dropped a 35-21 decision to Tiffin to start the day. In the match, Landon Reed earned a win by fall in 1:09 at 149 pounds to get the Tornado going. Jackie Miller earned a 10-7 at 197 win before Garrett Fosdyck took a win by fall in 2:40 to make the final score 35-21 in favor of the Dragons. The Tornado then fell to Findlay 45-4. Jesse Masters earned King's only points of the dual, taking a major decision victory, 16-4 over Alec Bissel at 184 pounds.

The closest match of the day came against Indianapolis, but the Tornado had to fight back after the Greyhounds took an 18-0 lead with three straight forfeits to start the match. Reed then earned a win by fall in 0:34 over Dylan Kavanaugh at 149 before Indianapolis earned back-to-back wins by decision to take a 27-6 lead. Trevor Wentt then took a win by forfeit at 174 pounds and Masters followed with a major decision victory, 13-1 over Luke Kriech at 184 pounds.  Eldon Valery earned a 7-4 win over Brian Wagner at 197 pounds, and Fosdyck capped the dual with a win by fall over Jared Boehm in 2:23 to make the final 27-25 in favor of the Greyhounds.

In the final match of the day, King fell to Seton Hill 30-19. The Tornado took a win by forfeit at 157 pounds before Masters started a streak of three straight wins for the Tornado. Masters took a 12-4 victory at 184, and Valery followed with a 9-5 win at 197 pounds before Fosdyck capped the dual with a win by fall in 1:06 at 285 pounds.

The Tornado will be in action again on Wednesday when they host #16 Newberry College in the Student Center Complex. The dual is slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
