BRISTOL, Tenn. – The top-ranked King University women's wrestling team proved why they are the team to beat the upcoming WCWA National Championships on Tuesday night when they defeated #14 Life University 43-1. The Tornado honored their four seniors, all of which took wins by fall in their final competition in the Student Center Complex.
The dual started out with King taking a win by forfeit at 101 pounds before Ashley Iliff got the Tornado (20-0) the momentum at 109 pounds. She earned a hard fought 12-2 technical fall victory with a second period flurry over Tyesha Topps. At 116 pounds, Haley Augello turned in a quick 10-0 technical fall win over Alanda Nguyen to give King a commanding 13-1 lead.
Hanna Grisewood started a run of wins by falls that the seniors would finish. At 123 pounds, Grisewood defeated Christina Kruder in 2:17, as she handed the momentum off to senior Sarah Hildebrandt. Hildebrandt wasted no time take her final victory in the Student Center, taking a win by fall in 0:45 over Natalie Chapman at 130 pounds.
Fellow senior Amanda Hendey kept the roll going at 143 pounds, topping Destiny Robinson-Crawl on a fall in 0:55. After another win by forfeit at 155 pounds, senior Lorrie Ramos defeated Maria Diaz on a fall in 1:05 before Julia Salata capped the 43-1 victory with yet another win by fall. The senior topped Rose Donaldson on a fall in 1:59 at 191 pounds to move King to 20-0 in duals on the season.
Select Tornado will be in action again this weekend at the Dave Schultz International Open. King will go for their second straight WCWA national championship on February 13-14 at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Mo.
