Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team opened their match against Pfeiffer University on mission on Wednesday night. The Tornado cruised to the Conference Carolinas sweep behind a stellar offensive performance, hitting .397 in the 25-7, 25-19, 25-16 victory.
After the Falcons (0-11, 0-4 CC) scored the first point, King (8-6, 3-1 CC) rolled off nine of the next 10 to force a Pfeiffer timeout. Summer Kremer had three kills on the spurt while Grace Underwood added one and Payton Tipton added an ace. With Kremer at the service line, King rolled off eight straight points to open up a commanding 21-5 advantage. Jordan Baty and Lauren Willoughby each accounted for two kills on the run. Willoughby finally ended the 25-7 victory with one of her three kills in the set. The Tornado hit a blistering .647. 11 kills, zero errors on 17 attempts in the frame.
The offense Tornado offense didn't let up in the final two sets, ending the match with a season-high attack percentage of .397. King quickly opened up a 10-4 lead following an Underwood kill to take command of the set. Back-to-back kills by Baty stretched the Tornado lead to 17-10 before King held off a late Pfeiffer rally to take the set 25-19.
Willoughby gave King a 10-4 lead in the third set with another kill, and the Tornado held the lead there until Kremer recorded back-to-back terminations to give King a chance at set point. An attack error gave King the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
Kremer and Willoughby led the Tornado attack with 12 kills apiece. Willoughby hit .550, 12 kills, one error on 20 attempts while Kremer posted a .476 attack percentage on 21 attempts with two errors. Olivia Underwood dished out 26 assists while Kremer and Casey Williams tied for the team lead with six digs.
King will have nearly a week off before jumping out of Conference Carolinas play to take on Milligan College. First serve on Tuesday from the Student Center Complex is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
