Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. – Coming off their first Conference Carolinas win of the year on Tuesday night, the King University women's volleyball team didn't have much time to bask in the victory as they faced Converse College on Wednesday night in another league contest. The Tornado made quick work of Valkyries to move to 2-0, following the sweep, 25-19, 25-12, 25-18.
The first set went back-and-forth, having 11 ties and five lead changes until a Jordan Baty kill gave King (7-5, 2-0 CC) a 20-18 advantage. Casey Williams followed with a service ace to force a Converse (5-5, 0-1 CC) timeout. Olivia Underwood and Summer Kremer ended the set with back-to-back kills for the 25-19 victory.
The Tornado didn't slow in the second set, jumping out to a 7-3 lead to force a Valkyrie timeout following a Payton Tipton ace. King used a 6-0 run to extend their advantage to 21-8. Tipton served up another ace to put King up 23-9 before Baty capped the 25-12 run with her fourth kill of the set.
King looked end the match in the third set as they jumped out to a quick 8-3 following a Willoughby kill. However, the Valkyries came back to get within 9-8 before Baty brought momentum back to King's side with a kill. Converse cut their deficit to one again at 15-14, but Ashton Beckner drove one home into the middle of the defense to thwart their spurt. Baty followed with a kill and after the teams traded points, Beckner served up back-to-back aces to put King up 21-15. Ashleigh Manke gave King a chance a set point with one of her three kills in the match before Valkyrie error gave King the 25-18 win and the sweep.
Baty paced the offense with 12 kills while Kremer followed with nine kills and seven digs. Willoughby and Sarah Collins chipped in with five kills apiece while Underwood dished out 31 assists to go along with six digs. Tipton and Williams tied for the team lead with 13 digs apiece.
King will be in action again on Friday when they host Limestone College in another Conference Carolinas tilt. King University will provide both live stats and video for the 7:00 p.m., first serve. The links can be found on KingTornado.com.
