Tornado cruise to sweep of Mount Olive on Senior Day

BRISTOL, Tenn. – On a day where the women's volleyball seniors were honored, it was only fitting that the King University women's volleyball seniors led the Tornado to a sweep of the University of Mount Olive. The Tornado jumped out an early lead over the Conference Carolinas counterpart and cruised to the 25-10, 25-15, 25-18 victory.

The score was tied just once in the first two sets, and that was at 1-1 in the first frame. King (13-9, 7-4 CC) posted a blistering .600 attack percentage in the first set, making just one error on 25 attempts with 15 kills. Seniors Summer Kremer and Jordan Baty led the offense with four and three kills in the set, respectively. The Tornado held a 22-10 lead before Kremer, Baty and Lauren Willoughby registered consecutive kills to give King the 25-10 victory.

Willoughby stayed hot in the second set, starting the frame with a kill and two aces in the first four points as King opened up a 6-0 advantage. Kremer continued her hot play as well, posting four more kills and two service aces in the frame. King led by as many as 13 points before Grace Underwood ended the 25-15 victory with one over her eight kills in the match.

King played from behind early on in the third set before Sarah Collins sparked a 6-0 run with a kill. Ashleigh Manke followed with a kill to even the match, and Collins gave King the lead with another termination. After a timeout, King scored three more points to open up a 13-9 advantage. The Trojans (5-17, 2-8 CC) came back to even the set at 15-all before Grace Underwood ignited an 8-0 run with a kill. Kremer posted a pair of kills on the spurt and Olivia Underwood added an ace before Grace Underwood gave King a 23-15 lead with another put away. The Tornado then had a chance at set point and Olivia Underwood set the ball to senior defensive specialist Brooke Calhoun who ended the match with her second kill of the season as King took the final set 25-18.

Kremer paced the Tornado offense with a .357 attack percentage, posing 14 kills to go along with nine digs. Baty added six digs in four kills, while fellow senior Payton Tipton posted a match-high 12 digs. Grace Underwood chipped in with eight kills, hitting .400 in the match while Collins added five kills. Olivia Underwood dished out 36 assists to go along with eight digs.

King will play their final regular season home match on Wednesday night when they host nonconference opponent UVa-Wise. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., in the Student Center Complex.
