The King men's and women's tennis teams hosted the Eagles of Carson Newman on Tuesday, coming away with a win for the men and loss for the women. The Tornado men won 5-4 in a tough match with wins coming at #1 Doubles with Ro Avila and Pablo Vidal winning 8-6, and the remaining wins coming in singles play. Avila won easily at #1, 6-0, 6-2, Vidal won handily at #2, 6-3,6-1, and Senior captain Patrick Jones came through with a strong victory at #4, winning 6-3, 6-3. The match came down to the #6 singles match between freshman William Boyce and Dalton Moore. Boyce won the first set quickly 6-3 and Moore then battled back to a tiebreaker at 6 all. William turned up the intensity to dominate the tiebreaker 7-2, clinching the win for the Tornado. The freshman from France showed great poise and confidence, continuing his improvement and contribution this year.
The women fell 9-0 despite spirited matches by freshmen Naomi Reyes and Mariana Hosomi. Both of their singles matches were hard fought with Reyes falling in a 10-6 tiebreaker in the third, while Hosomi fought bravely in a very long and difficult match before dropping her second set 7-5.
Both teams will be back in action when they host Erskine Friday March 15th at 3:00.
