BRISTOL, Tenn. - The King College men's wrestling team defeated NCAA Division II Super Region II foe Belmont Abbey (N.C.) College 34-12 Wednesday as the Tornado scored the final 24 points of the match.
King, ranked No. 7 in the last NCAA Division II Super Region II ranking, improved to 7-2-1 on the season while Belmont Abbey, the No. 8 team in the region, slipped to 8-11.
Belmont Abbey got the win at 125-pounds via forfeit before King's Caleb Myers (Greeneville, Tenn.) won a 10-2 decision at 133-pounds. At 141-pounds, Belmont Abbey's Will James defeated Francisco Bisono (Virginia Beach, Va.) 9-2. Nic Stella (Sweet Home, N.Y.) pinned Frank Alley at the 5:59 mark of his 149-pound bout.
The visitors went back ahead 12-10 after Jean-Paul Appolon was a 6-2 winner against John Brasher (McCalla, Ala.) at 157-pounds.
King answered when Patrick Spano (Tampa, Fla.) was a 16-0 winner over Ian Kelly at 165-pounds and John Forbes (Virginia Beach, Va.) posted a 13-1 major decision over Kwame Seymour in the 174-pound match. Brandon Tressler (Orlando, Fla.) pinned Jerami Bartley in 2:41 and Frank Morgan (Maynardville, Tenn.) picked up a forfeit win at 197-pounds to give King a 31-12 lead.
Dondricus Anderson (Macon, Ga.) closed out the match with a 4-1 decision in the 285-pound match.
It was the third time King scored 30 or more points in a dual this season.
King travels to No. 4 Newberry (S.C.) College for a 7:30 p.m. dual Friday.
