GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - King College traveled to Tusculum (Tenn.) College, but the homestanding Pioneers and Lady Pioneers emerged with tennis victories of 5-4 and 6-3 Friday.
The Lady Tornado started with a 2-1 lead after doubles which included wins by Virginie Brioschi and Nerece Stoltz (Witbank, South Africa) 8-1 at No. 1 with Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) and Sarah Anderson (Bristol, Tenn.) won the No. 2 doubles' match 8-5.
Brioschi needed a tiebreaker at No. 1 singles for a 6-2, 1-6 (10-5) victory, however that was the only singles' match that went for King.
Jose Avila (Cuernavaca, Mexico) and Patrick Jones (Bristol, Tenn.) posted an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, the only point for King before singles.
Avila later dominated in a 6-0 and 6-1 No. 1 singles' point. Pablo Vidal (Madrid, Spain) also won 7-6, 4-6 (10-4) at No. 2.
Eiki Magnusson (Reykjavik, Iceland) pulled out a 6-1 and 6-4 singles' point at No. 6.
The Tornado's record went to 8-3 while the Lady Tornado owns a 6-5 mark.
The next match for King will be Wednesday with Queens (N.C.) University of Charlotte at 12:30 in Bristol.
