Van Goethem registered two double-double performances while
fellow outside hitter Ashley
Pittman tallied 31 kills in two matches, helping the Lady
Tornado volleyball team to wins over Limestone College and Concord
College on Tuesday.
King hosted a tri-match featuring the Saints and Mountain Lions,
beginning a thrilling five-game win for the Lady Tornado over
Limestone. The Navy and Scarlett earned the win (20-25, 25-8,
25-22, 21-25, 15-12) taking sets two, three and five in a key
Conference Carolinas matchup.
Sarah Van Goethem recorded 16 kills and 18 digs in her second
straight double-double game. It was the Aurora, Colo. native's
tenth double-double performance of the year and her fourth in her
last five matches.
Shannon
Earwood (Carson City, Nev.) also put up a double-double digit
effort of her own accord, registering 37 assists and 10 digs
against the Saints. Adding to her all-around effort, the junior
recorded four block assists and one solo block to accompany a trio
of kills.
Senior Ashley Pittman (Norris, Tenn.) continued her strong
performance at the net, posting 14 kills on 38 attempts (.286) with
a pair of block assists, defensively. Mariah
Herington (Jonesborough, Tenn.) put up her strongest defensive
display of the season tallying nine block assists in the win.
Four King players hit double digit dig totals against Limestone.
In addition to Van Goethem (18) and Earwood (10), the combination
of Natalie
Brown (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Payton
Tipton (Cleveland, Tenn.) totaled 23 digs between them.
King returned to the court following the Limestone-Concord match
and continued their winning ways with a three-set win over the
Mountain Lions (25-22, 25-16, 25-22). Pittman led the team with 17
kills through three sets, averaging just under six kills per game
against Concord. She hit at a .343 clip (17-for-35) and committed
only five errors.
Van Goethem put together a second double-double effort with 12
kills and 12 digs against the Lions. She also hit at an extremely
high rate, converting 12-of-37 attack attempts for a success rate
of .370 in the nightcap.
Though the Lady Tornado were not as dominant defensive against
the Lions as they were in their earlier match, King took advantage
of 17 attack errors and six service errors committed by the
Lions.
Payton Tipton added a second double-digit dig game to her resume
on Tuesday with 13 against Concord, leading the team during the
match and making for a two-match total of 25 digs through eight
sets played.
King improves to 18-11 overall and extend their current winning
streak to seven consecutive matches. They are now 8-1 at home and
possess a 10-4 Conference Carolinas record, jumping Limestone for
the fourth spot overall and third in the Western Division.
Though the Lady Tornado are a lock for postseason play, they
will still fight for an opportunity to host the first round and
beyond of the Conference Carolinas Tournament beginning on Nov. 8.
King has five matches left in the regular season, all against
league opponents. Their final four matches are at home inside the
Student Center Complex, with a pivotal matchup against the Erskine
Flying Fleet on Senior Day wrapping up the regular season. The Lady
Tornado next play Mount Olive on the road on Friday, Oct. 28 with
first service at 6:00 p.m.
