BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College opened the dual match portion of the men's wrestling schedule with a 36-6 victory over the visitors from Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) College Tuesday.
Spartanburg Methodist got on the board first when Andrew Tillman had a 5-4 decision over Cullen King (Memphis, Tenn.) in the 125-pound match. The Tornado's Caleb Myers (Greeneville, Tenn.) answered with his 10-7 133-pound decision over Randy Stevens to even the score at 3-3.
The Tornado scored seven straight starting with Francisco Bisono (Virginia Beach, Va.) and an 11-5 decision at 141 pound. Nic Stella (Sweet Home, N.Y.) used a 12-3 major decision for four points in the 149-pound meeting.
Nick Voss stopped the Tornado run for Spartanburg Methodist with a decision over John Brasher (McCalla, Ala.) at 157 pounds, but that would be the last points King allowed.
Patrick Spano (Tampa, Fla.) won 18-0 over Reid Welch at 165 pounds and Jon Forbes (Miami, Fla.) followed with a 22-7 victory against Alex Tozzolino at 174. Brandon Tressler (Orlando, Fla.) won the last contested match, 18-5, over Donnee Grase at 184. King picked up the final 10 points via forfeits.
King closes out the calendar year with the highly competitive Midwest Classic Dec. 18-19 in Indianapolis, Ind. Before Tuesday's dual, King wrestled in four open events.
