BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University baseball team used a nine-run fifth inning Monday to beat Southern Wesleyan 12-7, winning the Conference Carolinas series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warriors started the scoring in the third on an RBI single to take an early lead.
- The Tornado responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, with Roper, Michael Starrs and Borchardt all recording RBI hits, including an RBI triple from Roper.
- After SWU scored three runs in the fourth, the Tornado took control in the bottom of the fifth, scoring nine runs on six hits.
- Josh Nuno started the inning with a leadoff double, advancing to third on a wild pitch. After Starrs drew a walk, Borchardt hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Nuno to score.
- A couple batters later, Conner Hyatt singled, scoring Medford before two more runs scored on a throwing error by the shortstop, making it a 7-4 King lead.
- Patrick Corley then singled through the left side, bringing in another run.
- After Roper doubled, three of the next four batters drew walks, allowing three runs to score.
- Joe Amunategui III delivered the final blow, a single that allowed Starrs to score, making it a 12-4 King lead.
- The Warriors scored a run in each of the final three innings, but Hunley was able to shut the door, stranding three runners on base.
FOR THE FOES
- Cam Mitchem was 2-for-5, including a solo home run on the day.
- Josh Long and Caide Linker both had doubles for the Warriors.
