King takes #2 North Greenville to extra innings in doubleheader

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The King University baseball team took #2 North Greenville University to extra innings in game two of their Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Saturday, falling on a walk-off home run in the 10th inning.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • North Greenville scored in the bottom of the first on a three-run home run, before adding a second run on a ground ball fielder's choice in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
  • The Tornado struck in the fourth, scoring one run without recording a hit. Levi Medford was hit by a pitch with one out, after which Nick Valentin drew a walk.
  • After Corley was hit by a pitch to load the bases, everybody move dup a base on a wild pitch, with Medford scoring to get King on the board.
  • North Greenville added two more in the bottom of the inning to stretch their lead to 6-1.
  • The Tornado again loaded the bases in the sixth, with Medford starting things with a leadoff walk before Huffman hit an infield single.
  • After Corley drew another walk to load the bases, Truman Roper picked up an RBI when he drew a five pitch walk, allowing Medford to score.
  • The Tornado went down in order in the seventh, falling 6-2 in the first game.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • The game was scoreless after three innings, at which point the Tornado struck for two runs when Michael Starrs hit a two-out single to left field.
  • That was followed by Bryant's home run, putting the Tornado in front 2-0.
  • King held the lead until the bottom of the sixth, when the Crusaders scored two runs to tie the game.
  • In the ninth, The Crusaders had runners on second and third with one out when the North Greenville batter flew out to right field. King right fielder Jacob Eargle was able to throw the runner out at the plate, sending the game into extra innings.
  • After King went down in order in the 10th, the Crusaders got a leadoff home run in the bottom of the frame to win it.
