BELMONT, N.C. – The King University women's basketball team fell to one of the league's top teams on Wednesday night. Belmont Abbey College used a run at the end of the first quarter to gain the advantage as they held that lead throughout the 76-40 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- Brianna Dunbar scored the first four points for the Tornado as King trailed 5-4 in the opening five minutes.
- However, the Crusaders scored the final 19 points of the period to take a 24-4 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Second Period
- Belmont Abbey then scored the first basket of the second quarter to take a 26-4 lead before an Alexa Gramann layup.
- The teams then traded points for the remainder of the half as the Tornado shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the quarter.
- A Jaelyn West layup made the score at halftime 37-17 in favor of the Crusaders.
Third Period
- Dunbar connected on a triple to start the half and pull King within 17 before a Gramann basket pulled King within 39-22.
- Belmont Abbey used an 8-0 run to pull away and take a 54-28 lead with two minutes remaining in the quarter before a West basket.
- The Crusaders then scored nine straight before an Alayna Smith free throw made the score 63-33 after three quarters.
Fourth Period
- Belmont Abbey outscored King 13-7 in the final quarter to take the contest 76-40.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gramann led King with 12 points and rive rebounds while Dunbar added nine points and four rebounds.
- Smith chipped in with six points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
- Catherine Hendershott led Belmont Abbey with 29 points while Abigail Crain added 14 points.
- Janiah Shular led the team with eight rebounds to go along with five points.
