Clark earns first career win as Tornado sweep Bulldogs

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University men's volleyball head coach Marquis Clark picked up his first career win as a Tornado Saturday afternoon, as the Tornado swept Barton College 3-0 inside the Student Center Complex. Warren Davis led the way with 18 kills, while Colton Bueter had 14, with Andrew Haber handing out 45 set assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • King took a 9-8 lead on a kill by Warren Davis, which started a 7-2 Tornado scoring run, putting them in front 15-10 heading into a timeout.
  • The Bulldogs pulled to within 21-17, but consecutive King points put them in front 23-17.
  • King got to set point at 24-19, ending the set on a Barton service error a short time later, winning 25-20.
Second Set
  • The Tornado took an early 4-2 lead before the Bulldogs scored a pair to tie the score.
  • Barton pulled ahead 8-5, with King battling back to tie the score at 15 before a Davis kill put them in front, 16-15.
  • The Bulldogs were able to tie the set at 23, but Kellan Kennedy and Colton Bueter had consecutive kills to win the set 25-23, putting King in front 2-0.
Third Set
  • A kill by Bueter broke what had been a 5-5 tie, putting King in front 6-5.
  • The lead eventually reached 14-8 after kills by Davis and Kennedy, but Barton was able to battle back, eventually tying the set at 19.
  • After Barton took a 24-23 lead, they would have three chances at set point, but the Tornado hung in there, eventually getting a block by Kennedy and Alex Barkley, as well as a kill by Bueter to seal a 28-26 set win, and a 3-0 match win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Davis and Bueter led the way for the Tornado, while Grayson Stoudt had nine kills and a .529 attacking percentage.
  • Haber handed out 45 assists, his second-highest total of the season.
  • Mason Martindale had 10 digs, while Barkley had nine.
FOR THE FOES
  • Brandon Johnston had 11 kills, with Jack Sandahl contributing nine.
  • Seth Deppe handed out 30 assists, while Sandahl had a match-high 2.5 blocks.
UP NEXT
  • The Tornado will start a three-match road trip Wednesday when they face Lincoln Memorial University in a nonconference contest.
  • Barton will play at Belmont Abbey College Friday night.
