Emmanuel comes back to top Tornado

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's soccer team started fast again on Wednesday afternoon against Emmanuel University, but the Lions answered with a pair of first half goals. Those goals stood up as the Tornado fell 2-1 to the Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the sixth minute, Taylor Stubbs played a ball into the middle of the box to Izzy Clark.
  • Clark then buried her shot into the upper right 90 to give King the 1-0 lead.
  • Stubbs nearly gave King a 2-0 lead in the 14th minute, but her shot was turned away.
  • Emmanuel then turned the field and evened the score in the 15th minute on a goal from Harley Murhpy assisted by Zoe Logue.
  • The Lions grabbed the lead in the 21st minute on a goal from Shania Wegesend.
  • Ella Froehlich answered with a shot that was ripped just left of the goal in the 24th minute and Stubbs had a shot turned away seconds later.
  • Emmanuel took three more shots the remainder of the half, but none were on goal as the Tornado trailed 2-1 at the half.
  • In the opening 10 minutes, the Lions posted a pair of shots, the second was turned away by Kristal Garcia.
  • Garcia came up with two more saves in the second half to keep the Tornado within striking distance.
  • Froehlich had a shot turned away in the 78th minute before Maggie Danroth ripped shot that was turned away in the 85th minute.
  • Those were the best two scoring chances for the Tornado as the Lions took the contest 2-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • King took 15 shots and placed seven on goal while earning one corner kick.
  • The goal for Clark was her first career goal.
  • Garcia made three saves.
FOR THE FOES
  • The Lions placed five of their 18 shots on target and took four corner kicks.
  • Julia Styrmisdotter made six saves for the Lions.
