CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The King University women's soccer team dropped a nonconference matchup Wednesday afternoon, falling to Salem University 1-0.
Mackenzie Winters finished with three shots on goal, while
Veronica Roach had two.
Kristal Garcia stopped six shots for the Tornado.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Roach got things started in the fifth minute, ripping a shot that missed right.
- After two more King shots went wide, Garcia made her first save in the 17th minute, stopping a shot from Ana Luiza Ferrante.
- 10 minutes later, Garcia made another save, keeping the match scoreless.
- Izzy Clark picked up the first shot on goal for the Tornado in the 30th minute, but was unable to convert.
- King would get three more shots on goal before halftime, but were unable to find the back of the net.
- Garcia continued her stellar play in the second half, making three saves in the first 20 minutes of play.
- The Tigers eventually broke the deadlock in the 68th minute, as they slipped one into the back of the net, taking a 1-0 lead.
- The Tornado had a series of scoring chances in the final 10 minutes, with Winters taking a pair of shots on goal that were turned away by the Salem goalkeeper.
- One final shot by Clark in the 90th minute sailed wide.

- As a team, the Tornado took a season-high 8 shots on goal.
- Winter's three shots on goal is tied for the most in a single game this season for the Tornado.
FOR THE FOES
- Oceane Deslauriers led the Tigers attack, scoring the lone goal on four shots, three of which were on goal.
- Other Tigers to record shots on goal include Nasiha Ali, Ana Caroline Lopes and Ana Luiza Ferrante.
- Chloe Owens and Alexandra Issard split time in net, with both recording four saves.
