Tornado upended by Crusaders, 3-0

BELMONT, N.C. – The King Tornado outperformed Belmont Abbey in the first half Tuesday night but were unable to find the back of the net as a late first half goal and two second half goals proved to be the Tornado downfall, losing 3-0 to the Crusaders.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tornado were dominant during the first half, taking seven total shots, three of which were on net. Hannah Hix had three shots for the Tornado, with one shot on goal in 22 minutes played.
  • Despite King getting numerous chances, it was the Crusaders who broke through, as they scored in the 42nd minute to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
  • Belmont Abbey struck again just 12 minutes into the second half, as they scored an unassisted goal in the 57th minute, extending their lead to 2-0.
  • King had a scoring chance in the 66th minute when Mackenzie Winters took a shot, but it missed high left.
  • The action then shifted back into the Belmont Abbey offensive zone, where the Crusaders connected in the 80th minute to take a 3-0 lead that would withstand the final 10 minutes, despite a Maya Houston shot one minute later that was stopped by the keeper.

  • Veronica Roach took two shots for the Tornado, giving her a team-high 10 shots this season. She is also leading the team in shots on goal (6).
  • Anya Gross played 88 minutes for the Tornado, recording two shots, one of which was on goal. She has started all five games this season and has played a team-high 431 minutes.
FOR THE FOES
  • The three goals scored by Belmont Abbey are a new season-high, along with assists (2) and points (8).
  • After not recording a shot on goal in the first half, the Crusaders had five in the second half.
  • Corrine Shovlain had a goal, an assist and four shots for the Crusaders despite playing just 37 minutes.
